I have a 1995 F150 with a 5.8 and E4OD. It has 142,000 miles and has never had any major work done. I'm the original owner and this truck is all original and looks like new inside and out. I have one small problem that is not major but just irritating. The problem occurs on hot days when it's over 90* and after I've driven over 15 miles with the a/c on. I shut the engine off for about 5 minutes and when I start it, it runs uneven, like a leaking valve (not really a total miss). It's like having a weak cylinder. Over the next 15-20 seconds it gets better and is OK in less than 30 seconds.
If I let it set for 20 minutes before I start it (instead of waiting only 5 minutes) it runs perfectly when started. There is never a loss of antifreeze but I left the radiator cap loose anyway and it did the same thing with no pressure. It has been doing this for about 4 years and doesn't seem to be getting any worse. I worry about an intake air leak and frying a cylinder.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hard to figure, you know the trucks maintenance history better then I, when was the last time the injectors were maintained? When was the last tune up, etc? Any codes?
My best guess would be an injector that isn't doing so well with the heat soak.
I did a complete tune-up after this started (rotor, cap, plugs, filters). I guess I'll get an injector cleaning kit and try that since it's never been done. I won't know if it helped until next summer!

IDK what you mean by injector cleaning kit, but I can tell you one of the best things to do is to take your injectors to a cleaning/testing place. They can test your injectors in front of you so you'll know what was going on, then clean, rebuild, or replace them as needed.
I was thinking about a kit that hooks to the fuel rail to inject cleaner. As I recall, it's a major project to remove the injectors from one side. I think that the intake has to come off. I'd live with the problem before I'd do that.
I put in 2 cans of Sea Foam in June and ran the truck about 500 miles over the next 2 months (lots of HOT weather). It didn't miss once during that time. It appears to be OK. That was a cheap fix!
