My dually has a king ranch front bumper. these are actually power coated, not painted. I have scratched up the front pretty bad, twice!.. One repair place won't touch it, and two others want over 800 for repairs..
anyhow, picked up a takeoff bumper last night (for $250). I have never swapped these. There are no chassis brackets on the new bumper, just the brackets where the tow hooks are I think.
how do the fog lights attach? I did a quick search, but didn't see anyone having shown the how to.
Behind the airdam, that first crossmember has a connection where both fog lights connect. Also, behind the fog lights, there is almost a metal cover, they are connected to the frame and will need to be unbolted for the bumper to come off.
The bumper comes off with the tow hook bolts and two side brackets that you can see in the wheel well. You will also have to disconnect the plastic "valance" flap underneath the truck (this is not the valance you see from the front of the truck). You can just unplug the fog lights. Once you get the bumper off it will be obvious how the fog lights come off.
That is all based off memory, so I may have missed something. It is pretty straight forward though.
4 bolts from the front and 2 on each side on mine, plus the fog wiring, which I don't have.
The rubber flap stays with the truck on mine. and the hard plastic valance is screwed and pinned to the bumper.
thanks everybody. on the side brackets, is it better to pull the two at the chassis or the ones out on the bumper end instead? those will have to come off anyhow to get the fog lights out I am sure. and they are not on the new bumper.
I did the bumper swap yesterday, really very easy.
4 bolts each side to remove the bracket behind the fog light assembly
then unhook the wire holders that hold the fog light wires to the bumper
unhook the 3 push pins that hold the air deflector to the bumper
and then the 4 bolts at the tow hooks..
getting it back on requires an extra set of hands or something to set the bumper on while you guide the 4 bolts back in.
took 45 minutes total. (I love air tools, gonna miss having the monster 60/80 gal compressors)
removed the lightbar for now.. it has water inside now and needs to be cleaned and sealed. new planned neighborhood is city, so won't need it much.
If you were closer I'd offer to take that old one off your hands. I'm wanting to get one powdered to match. Found the rear but fronts are difficult around here.
Where are you guys finding takeoff bumpers for these trucks? I'd like to find a rear bumper and front grill insert for a lighting project on the truck, but I want to keep my originals should I ever decide to go back to stock (or I really screw up the lighting install).
I have a Lariat, so it may be a little easier for me to source a chrome bumper. I just need to make sure it has the backup sensor cutouts.
Easy to do..did it myself and installed myself.. two bolts each side in the wheel well area at the very outer part. The 4 larger bolts in front. There are nut plates behind for the larger bolts.. plus the fog light wiring.
go under and unhook the wiring first. Also the block heater as well I believe. There are videos on this on utube.
