I have 2007 explorer 4.0 4x4. Check engine light and wrench symbol on with codes po743 po750 po755 po po765 po966 po966 po970. Feels like it is now stuck in 3rd gear. Any help is greatly appreciated.
First step is to check your fluid level. You want to do that while the engine is running ( that is, if you can check the fluid level on an 07...I'm not sure, I've head something about newer transmissions being sealed units. Look under the truck to see if you can find any fluid leaks...you are looking for red transmission fluid or reddish brown.
To the codes...they all point towards low pressure and solenoid failures...these could be simply due to a blown fuse, so you want to check your fuses as well before we condemn anything to a more grim outlook. The transmission is running in "limp home" mode to protect it from damage, so you will want to avoid driving it as much as possible until you can get the fluid level right if it is low, or fuses replaced if they are blown. IF neither is the case, then you will need to look around the transmission wiring to see if you find a loose plug, broken wiring, etc.
No way to check it without screwing the special fitting into the pan. There is no dipstick. You have to check it while running and at temp. It is arguably both a worse process as it is harder to do, but better process because it is way more accurate when filling. Check the fuses as mentioned is always a good idea. I would pull the battery cables for an hour and then see if it acts different once reconnected and the idle is relearned. Also...if your battery is weak at all, all sorts of weird things can happen, so make sure that's good and hot also. Good luck
