I have browsed around for a while, yet can not find the answer to my question in other posts. I have read many replies, yet I have checked and know that none of the listed problems could be wrong with my dad's truck.
Anyways, when your starting off, going normal speed and accelerating slowly to normally the tranny (automatic) won't shift out of first. You must give it a good amount of gas, running it up to 2500 to 3200 RPM and then let off cost for a split second, then be a little heavy with your foot torwards the gas. It then jerks, and goes into second.
Well the most obvious thing to do is to check the tranny fluid. And this I did. Everything was as it should be, nice and red.
This is why I drive a manual. Any help is welcolmed. Long Live TEXAS.

I also have a six speed, but I don't let that stop me from giving advice. Automatics, as I'm sure you know have all sorts of little ball and spring check valves along with pressure sensing circuitry and solenoids to handle the job that you and I do by rowing on that long lever on the center hump. Something is obviously hanging up, burnt out or just plain broke in that system.
You didn't say how old your Dad's truck is, but the newer trucks tend to a whole lot more electornics, which makes it harder for the average guy to work on them, but a whole lot easier for the dealer to diagnose them. If this is the case, you're going to need somebody with the electronics to read the fault codes that may be coming from the transmission. Good luck.
