Question e250 4.2 oil filler pipe seal

Need some info. I have a 2000 e250 4.2l . The oil filler pipe came loose from the valve cover. It needs what looks like an o ring or seal in the valve cover hole. It's gone.
Tried finding one all over. The dealer doesn't know whats up either.
I'm not sure if there is something missing? The oil fill tube adapter is connected to the filler pipe, but it just sits in the valve cover hole, with no seal or connector. There is a rubber ring but no seal of any kind in the hole. The hole looks like it could also take an old style oil cap.
Autozone told me to replace the valve cover. Sounds extreme.

Anyone got any info on this?

This would be your valve cover? The adapter above fits into the valve cover and then the filler tube?

I believe model year 2000 would have the 4.6 Modular Motor which is an 8 cylinder engine---I could be horribly mistaken so if that's the case my bad.

If its indeed the V8 engine that might be more helpful as a search parameter.

Thanks Annaleigh, I have all those parts installed. I have had this van for 7 years and did not have a problem with this until yesterday. The whole assembly popped out of the valve cover. I took it off and found that some one years ago wrapped some sort of tape around the threaded adapter where it goes in to the valve cover. It seems that there should be an o ring or grommet of some kind in the valve cover hole. There is not. It looks like there is a groove for one though. Went to 2 ford dealers, they have no parts listed for this. I was told to buy a new valve cover? Not the best solution. Have any idea what type of seal should be there? The adapter is the same as your picture, all of that is correct. It is the 4.2l engine. In pictures i've seen on line it appears there should be a factory install rubber bushing in the valve cover hole?

did you go to ford ans ask them to pull up a diagram?
Napa has helped me allot with diagrams when needing part like that...

Member Numberdummy here at F0rd-trucks is very good with part numbers, maybe send him a PM if no one else has the answer..

from the pics, the adapter appears to have threads on it, unless they are soft rubber and press fit into the valve cover? Perhaps yours has hardened and will no longer stay in the cover?

Same problem here on a new to me 1999. It adapter and the oil cap from the end of the long fill tube do not thread into the valve cover location. It's like they are slightly small in diameter thread wise to grab. It's as though something in the valve cover receiving hole wore out or is missing.

Did ya'll ever figure this out? Running into same thing on my 98 e150 with the 4.2L. can't tell if it's the valve cover being worn out in some way and so the threads just can't fully engaged or if I'm actually missing a seal. Cheers

Anyone ever figure this out? Same same on an '03 and part is pretty scare nowadays.. My immediate thought is to just cap it off at the valve cover and just use a long funnel when adding or changing & be done with it. Basically delete the tube parts and flat cap it tight..Was hoping maybe someone thought of this too and has a cap/part number that'll seal correctly right to the 4.2l cover...(?)
TIA.
*Edit: immediate afterthought - wonder if the tube cap would fit and seal at the valve cover.. that probably just makes too much damn sense to Ford, but...🤔
