Just started in the past week, all interior and running board lights come on after my 2000 Excursion is locked. At first they would stay on for 15 mins and then off. Some times they would just come on and then go off after a few minutes . Last night they were on all night. I remember something about a delay switch that keeps them on for a while then off. Any one know what it's called and where it's locatated? Thanks in advance for the help!
Could also be a faulty door open switch, if you peak inside while it's locked and the interior lights are on, you might see the door open symbol on the dash.
Maybe rear door or hatch isn't closed tightly??
EDIT: I discovered the "door ajar" indicator ONLY comes on with key-on. So my idea above is a none starter..
Thanks for the responses. I have checked all doors and they appear to be OK. What bothers me is that it goes on and off all during the day while it is still just sitting there and locked. When I just checked, the battery is now dead. Still Need ideas!

What is the test procedure for the door switch ? I am guessing you have to take the door panel off and test the switch with an ohm meter ? If so what are the pass fail values ? Sheesh.... I don't even know what the door switch looks like. Have not had to fiddle with mine yet.
Have you checked the rear lift glass and doors? You might try pulling on the lift glass while locked to see if it on the edge of open/close and as temps change in the sun it triggers the door open?
Thanks again for all the replies . Update, after recharging the battery, everything is fine! Checked all the door switches again and everything works like it did before. Now I am really lost, but happy till it starts again.
Interior Lights / Running Boards won't turn on automatically
Please Help! I can't get my interior lights or running boards to come on when the doors open, but they will turn on if switched on manually. I've checked the #14 fuse, it's fine. I swapped the #1 relay (interior lights) with the #2 relay (battery saver) and that didn't fix it. It shouldn't be the door latch sensor because it doesn't matter which doors I open, the lights don't come on. Anyone else had this issue and have a solution?
My rear hatch won't turn the lights off unless I slam it. Maybe you fooling with it was enough to make it work?
I guess we'll see ?? He never answered any questions, so as to diagnose the issue .
As far as your back hatch goes, if you will spray the lube of your preference on the 2 switches (1 on each side of the door) it will take care of the problem 99% of the time.

I will have to do that then! I need to Armor all the weather stripping too, my hatch sticks shut really bad when it is cold
