Brake drums

A big thank you to all of you that replied to my tire question. I am fairly new at this computer game and I have not mastered the picture posting part yet, although I would like to. The question for now is, How far can I turn the stock drums and still be safe? I hate these aftermarket parts that we get from the land of almost right and would like to stay original if I can. Also how many of you rebuild wheel cylinders? What brand of kits do you prefer?

Generally about .060 over the brake size is about the limit. So if you have 12" brakes, the drum shouldn't go over 12.060". Even at that, the brakes will have lost a lot of the contact patch and effectiveness. In the old days shoes were ground and "arced in" to fit the worn drums. Not many people are even aware of that anymore, nor is there anyplace to get it done in most towns. You might still be able to get thicker linings at a truck brake shop and have them rivet to you old shoes.
I tend to buy new wheel cylinders whenever they are reasonable available because I don't like putting kits in old pitted cylinders and they are generally inexpensive.
