MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.
Drove home with a better deal than we planned on. We got there & there was a mix up & they had no AWD Sportage's at all. Well they ended up getting us an upgrade model EX in our first choice in color (white) for the same money we thought we would be paying for the base LX model.
It was the best dealership buying experience I have ever had. What a fun day. Coming home tonight we got to experience the AWD. We hit a white out snow storm going up Goldfield Summit. Then solid ice on Tonopah Summit. The Kia was more sure footed than any 4x4 I have ever owned. It has unbelievable traction. I see why it is top rated in snow & off-road. We just love the car. Can't say enough about the service & deal we got from Jim Marsh Kia in Las Vegas.
Sounds like an excellent Christmas present. And good to know there are some good dealers still out there.
Jim
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.
I went to Jim Marsh Kia because I had other type of business dealing with him over the years & he was always a straight forward guy. His dealerships in Las Vegas are run that exact way. In fact he was there & I got a chance to visit with him. I hadn't talked with him in sometime. He is in his 80s & he remembered me. He has a Mazda dealership & had the original Volvo dealership in Las Vegas. Years ago he had a Ford dealership here in Tonopah.
You guys say no pictures doesn't exist so here it is.

Remember that Hyundai & Kia in 2011, started the body style that so many others have copied, including Ford. I rented a 2012 Hyundai for a week in 2012. Their styling was way ahead of the others. Slowly I started seeing more & more cars following behind them. Kia design is lead by their head engineer who was Volvo's head design engineer for years. Some of Volvo's 20 year old station wagons, if you upgraded the headlights & added LED they would look as modern as today's cars.
Its hard to beat Kia's warranty of 6 years 100,000 miles. Plus they are a few thousand less that the Escape. They rate top in their class for off-road & snow & ice. Escape is in that class. Mazda & Honda are next. The Kia does get the worse gas mile in class. We took a day trip today & we got 26 mpg. Top is Honda with 31+.
Yea but it cost a lot more than yours to get that. So most likely you are ahead of the deal. These new cars should get 50+ mpg. Crap my 62 Chevy, 283, powerglide, back in the day got 16-18 mpg. Gas was only $.016/gal.
I remember when I first got my license and gas went UP to .54 cents a gallon. I thought "Sure, I get my license, and you raise the cost of gas!" LOL. As for the cost difference, yeah, I'll take my 18-20 mpg since it only cost me around $2k to get the car ($1,600 for the car, and another $355 to get it smogged, registered, insured, and title transferred.)
I am looking at possibly buying an 84 F-150 4x4, as a toy/off road truck but it has a carb and a 3 speed automatic. And thought maybe I could convert it to EFI and add an overdrive, then thought I could buy a lot of gas for the cost of both those upgrades. Might as well just leave it alone and enjoy it.
I grew up in Hawthorne. Back in the 60s when Hawthorne & Elko played AA in High School Sports. That was a long road trip in a school bus back then.
In the 50s my Dad bought 2.5 acres in Jackpot NV. When all that was there was Old Cactus Pete's bar & Barton's 93. We owned it until we sold in the 90s.
Kermmydog how old are you if you don't mind me asking? My dad grew up in yerington. Played ball there...and went on to sign with the Dodgers out of high school in the mid 60s.
We are having Craig carbon dated just to be sure. Myself, I am just a young man of 71 years age.
Speak up the rest of this crew.... Or did you forget?
Been cold up here on this mountain. From before xmas to now we have had a couple of feet of snow and it is cool enough that most of it is still in place. I has gone down a bit, several day had highs in the upper thirties, low forties. My snow blower is working like a champ.
Went to Reno today to hear Bernie Sanders (our future President,) speak. Got to meet him briefly. What a great guy. My wife went to see Hillary just recently too. So I have pictures of her with both the candidates. I will vote for Bernie, the most honest candidate of my lifetime.
I have an '08 F150, 4x4 crew with the 5.4. Great truck. It's all stock and I feels totally secure driving it in chopped up snow and ice. Very predictable. I would like more power but I have realized that the 5.4 is really optimum for working and difficult conditions.
Hope everyone had a great happy ho ho day and happy new year to all!
