Side tire mount

What year did the side tire mount come out. How odd would a 54 bed and fenders look on a 48- 50 truck?

Not sure what year they started the side mount but the 56 bed I have has one. I think I seen a truck posted on here one time that had the 53 or later bed on a 48-52 and didn't really look out of place.

I don't know what the newer bed would look like, but I wanted the spare tire.
I ended up going with it mounted in the bed on the sidewall, not the same look but I am pleased with the results.

It is a new/old one (two years old). I drive the truck quite a bit. The old finish went bad in under two years, I just spent two weeks refinishing it. Did the refinishing in the truck, I don't think I would do that again, it would have been worth it to remove the wood.

I am betting it came out with the new style in 1953
I really like those but was asking for a friend that has a 50 cab with no bed.

Actually I think it was 56 but could have been 55 unless it was an option.

The optional side mount spare was first available in 54.

I've read on here somewhere 1954 was the first year for the spare tire fender dent on the left side . Also, from 1954 on the holes were punched into every left bed side with or without spare to save time .Every one I've seen after 54 has the holes at least up to 1966 if it is factory.

No. I do not. It is mounted under the bed.

What holes do you mean? Do you mean the holes to hold the spare tire holder to the bed? Or the angled piece of reinforcing steel that went on the flare? I have never seen this.

How hard are the dented fenders to come by. I have a set of 54 fenders with no dent.
