Cannot find REAR swaybar bushings!

Brought home a couple sizes of Moog swaybar bushings, neither fit. My factory rear swaybar IS 27mm. (1.02")

Any listings I found showed a 3/4" bar. The Moog 3/4" bushing was the correct height, but wrong diameter. The Moog 1" bushing fit the bar, but was way too short and the bar could move front to back quite a bit.

For now I put a small 1/8" flat plastic shim underneath the factory swaybar bushing to tighten it up. They are completely worn out and I can slide the bar easily from side to side with one hand. Any help with a Moog or Prothane or whatever bushing would be great!

From backing plate on the axle to the top of the bushing where it gets clamped down it is 2.5".

What did the sway bar come off of? Have you called the local dealer with your VIN #?

Right after I read your post I was looking at a set of brake lines on amazon and they suggested sway bar bushing to go with them, LoL

Amazon spiders are frightening !!!!

Anyhow, looks like energy has you covered, look at the greaseable set. 1" bar 2 5/8 tall

Thanks, looks like those ones from Energy are not even close though. The greasable set is 2 5/8 tall to the grease nipple, mine are actually 2.5 on the bushing. Also the mounting bracket holes are way too close together from energy. My ex are about 5" apart.

After looking harder, It looks like I might have a sway bar from an E350 van of some kind (previous owner must have put this on). I'll get to the bottom of it, but looks like Energy's FRONT 1" bar kit comes with the bushings I need, but also comes with swaybar link bushings which I dont need.

So might be going to Ford after all!

They have vehicle specific bushings as well.

Yes, saw those but why don't they sell that bushing separate? The size I need ONLY comes in a kit from them with swaybar link bushings, and my sway links are still very tight.

2C7Z 5484-AA is the Ford part #. $17 retail through Ford. I am assuming you have on 2003 Ex. This is also assuming you have a stock Excursion bar.

2003 Ex. 36mm front swaybar, 27mm rear swaybar (1.02")

Every listing I find anywhere shows rear swaybar on the Ex to be a 3/4" bar.

Not sure what the heck but that Ford part# you gave me looks just like what I need. There is a good chance that some parts on my Ex came from the scrapyard, previous owner had done a bunch of his own work. Ultimately I think he sold it because he couldnt figure out how to get rid of the wandering.

Anyway thanks for the info!

Sorry, I gave you the part # for the front. The correct # for the rear is F81Z 5484-LA and retails for $47.

Finally got word from the ford dealer today (very reputable dealer). They said the bushing I have is no longer available, definitely was not from a factory excursion. Must have been a junkyard take off of some kind. The ford p/n was 3c7z5493ra. Looks like I have to use the Energy kit and only use the bushings. Yeesh.

You seem very hesitant to replace what is likely a a decades old rubber part ? Why so adverse to installing new eye bushings ?

Because my end links have already been replaced at some point with the updated Ford ones, ball joint style. They are tight as can be.

I ordered the Energy kit, had no other option. Guess Ill have an option to replace the endlink eyes in the future if need be.

Thanks for all the replys guys

I found a part number from NAPA from someone on this forum, and he said cut down to 2.5". They are for 1" rear sway bar, the right width and all. So I bought them. Before I cut down, I wanted to ask is the 2.5" measured from the outside lip or the inside where the mount goes?

Polyurethane bushings deflect less allowing the bar to work better.
Polyurethane is nice to work with, you can bore it out for larger diameter bars and easily trim the height with a band saw.
