I've got a '79 F150 with a C6 tranny that has been giving me some trouble lately.
Whenever I put the truck into drive it won't move unless I let the engine warm up. It will shift into R and go but D isn't as responsive. It runs fine after I have let the truck warm up for a couple of minutes but if I forget I have to sit for few minutes so the vehicle can warm up before shifting.
Also the forward seal hardens and wears a groove in the piston surface compounding the problem.
When the seal heats up it swells to fill it.
Also if you reve up the engine, the increace in pressure might push it close enough to engage and it will SLAM INTO GEAR (bad as that tends to break things).
