ok thanks im waiting him to get back to me so I can go look at it get some #'s off it and try to identify it looks like a factory 4 brl motor says its out of a 64 stn waggon so we will see
Trying to do some research on this motor . The motor is a 4 bbl 390 with c6ae-u heads
Date code is march of 66.
He said it came out of a 64 stn waggon, obviously not the original motor.I read on a forum that these heads had small combustion chambers, only smaller are the c0ae hp's....
looking on Ford Cylinder Head Casting Numbers | Hot Rod Reference
looks like compression ratios for any 390 with 4 bbl in 66 was 10.5:1
You are correct, a factory 4bbl 390 in '66 would be 10.5. Most 2bbl motors were 9.5 from '66 and up. Mercury had a 10.5 2bbl motor.
$250 ain't bad if the block is sound. The way those were geared in most "family cars", along with the corked up exhaust, I'd bet most of those motors never saw 4000 rpms.
I went and looked at the motor, looks in tact and original.. heads are number correct
Wont be able to check it out till I get it home in a couple weeks, motor turns over by hand and there is oil in CC I will post when I tear it down
Heck yea that's a good deal! Any FE without the rods outside the block is worth good money! Especially the big ones, 401,410,427,428! They are antiquated powerplants but cool and unique! I still run one in the mud drags and make pretty good power for what I have in it. Everybody says 460, and I say "Nah this ole' girl does just fine".
I picked it up yesterday.. I should pull # 1 and 4 plugs and check stroke
Kinda got me wondering what I have
c6ae-u heads, d2 4 bbl intake, factory holley carb
Who knows whats inside
Maybe I should wait to open, xmas morning and find out if ive been good or bad.
Well it looks like I got a mixed bag for a motor. Grrrr
Block is D6TE
one head is c6ae-u
one head is c8ae-h
manifold is d2 4 brl with the cast "T:
exh manifolds are d2's
Still don't know what the stroke is yet I guess ill check tomorrow
Pissed about the heads thought they were both c6ae -u's
