64 didn't have pent roof valve covers or an alternator, so I don't think the guy knows what it is..

Trying to do some research on this motor . The motor is a 4 bbl 390 with c6ae-u heads
Date code is march of 66.
He said it came out of a 64 stn waggon, obviously not the original motor.I read on a forum that these heads had small combustion chambers, only smaller are the c0ae hp's....
looking on Ford Cylinder Head Casting Numbers | Hot Rod Reference
looks like compression ratios for any 390 with 4 bbl in 66 was 10.5:1

HMMM I got to go check this out

Just for grins, here is another set of '60s FE charts:

FE Series Engine Specification Chart

You are correct, a factory 4bbl 390 in '66 would be 10.5. Most 2bbl motors were 9.5 from '66 and up. Mercury had a 10.5 2bbl motor.

$250 ain't bad if the block is sound. The way those were geared in most "family cars", along with the corked up exhaust, I'd bet most of those motors never saw 4000 rpms.

A 66 motor makes more sense, that would be a good motor to get.

390 good deal

Heck yea that's a good deal! Any FE without the rods outside the block is worth good money! Especially the big ones, 401,410,427,428! They are antiquated powerplants but cool and unique! I still run one in the mud drags and make pretty good power for what I have in it. Everybody says 460, and I say "Nah this ole' girl does just fine".

It's like a box of chocolates

You never know! I picked up a 66 390 a few years back. Was told it was out of an old Mercury. Once I tore it down I found a 428 hiding inside.

Does the D2... intake have a big "T" cast into it? (good street manifold, just 85lbs or so...)

Good idea, open it up Christmas morning, see if Santa brought you flat tops near the deck or dished .120 below...

Good luck with it.
