I recently had all of my door & window weatherstripping and seals replaced and as I drive down the road I hear whistling as though air is getting through. it gets louder the faster I go. does anyone have a way that I can check to see where exactly the air is getting through?
Vent wing seals also? Does you vent wing lever have the plastic tip on it? Rear slider lock/latch and seal?
Any way you can drive down the road and have a smoke bomb on a stick, like in a wind tunnel aerodynamic test? U tube that if you get it to work out. lol Do you have the paper seal on the inside of the door?
Any chance the aluminium sill plate is not right or to low? Any chance it is your carburetor or a vacuum leak?
Is your vent ducting flap seal, vent to off seal good? Do you have the kick panel slide opening?
I've had folded up matchbook covers under the vent window latches for almost 30 years now to take care of the whistling. It just takes a couple of folds to put enough pressure on the seals to do the trick.
If the noise is with the window open, well, you'll have to put up with some noise. These trucks are not as slick aerodynamically as the new stuff.
First narrow down the general area aurally and at speed during the phenomenon.
Park it. Then take a dollar bill, place it across the door seal, and see how easily it drags through the seal.... you'll need to repeat the procedure over the entire area of cause.
... then check the vent windows.... do that visually.
There's also the "powder check". Close the doors and vents and blast the heater blower full speed. Sprinkle flour or other fine powder on the body seams and ID where air is leaking... and wear eye protection.
I've had pretty good luck on customers vehicles finding wind and water leaks by using the water hose and blasting every gap and seal area from the OUTSIDE(just sayin'). Let everything set for a minute so water doesn't drip down and in when you open the door to check for leaks and usually the leak will show up. If you stop spraying and open the door instantly it will throw your detective work off by letting some water in here and there. If you still can't find it then after spraying all gaps etc. with water ,grab an air hose and blow air all around the gaps and seams. That will assuredly blow a bit,or a lot, of telltale water into the cab showing the leak. Good luck! GAry
Get someone to ride with you, rent or buy a DECIBEL METER. Move it around till you find the noise. Works pretty well. I have an old Greenlee part no. 50344510 cat. no. 93-20
