well my FX4 needs a new engine. a small tick was the only indication of a problem. it ran perfectly. looks like a piston sleeve in the 5.0 has slipped.
Thanks for posting about it. Did the dealer provide any TSB or tech articles on how they diagnosed it as needing a replacement engine? Mine has the 5.0 "tick" as well and I will need to be fighting with my dealer about this in the near future... or trading my truck in.

Welcome to the forum, FX4roy. I want to see what I can do to get you back behind the wheel as quickly as possible. Since you're a new member, you may not have access to PMs yet. Send an email to custserv@ford.com with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership. This email address isn't actively monitored, so put my name ("Crystal") in the subject line. Post here once you've sent it; that's how I'll know to go and look for your message.

Let's see what I can do to make sure the dealer visit goes smoothly, Robb. How many miles are on your truck currently?

Thank you Crystal! I currently have around 31k miles. I will probably be holding off on any major repairs like this until after winter in New England.
I have been happy working with Ford of Branford CT and they have taken care of me in the past, however I did need to direct them to a specific TSB for my last 2 issues.
It would be nice to go into this issue with some documentation from Ford that it is a known issue before "discussing" it with my dealer.

Thanks for the quick reply, Robb! I'm glad to hear that you've got a great dealership. I don't have access to TSBs, but your service manager should be able to see any that apply to the truck by checking out your VIN. Touch base with me after things thaw out after winter; I'll be here to help.
All's well that ends well. My dealer was fantastic. They had the new engine ordered before I knew there was a serious problem. I went in thinking I had a bad injector.
It took 4 days to replace the engine but when I got her back she was washed, waxed and purring like a kitten. I'm very happy with the service I received.
Thanks Crystal. I keep you in mind if there's every another issue.

Glad to hear you were up and running so fast! Did they happen provide any TSB# or other information info on the repair slip as to how they diagnosed it as needing a replacement engine that I could use to reference when I discuss this with my dealer? Thanks in advance.

"... the 5.0 tick"? ! It has a name.
arrgh, at 16K my '14 has had it for most of it's 8 months. thought it was just me. Seems buying new Ford wasn't the best choice(btw my '01 only went to the shop for radiator and brake switch recalls).
Road trips are questionable now since I don't trust the thing.
At least until I can get it to the dealership. If they'll even fix it. arrgh.

Reason: add info.
My Dealer didn't find a TSB on the issue for the 2014 but had seen the problem on earlier trucks. He talked to the Ford engineers and ordered the long block.
I do a lot of driving with my job and he said the truck would be fine while I waited for the engine to come in. that only took 3 days.
