I've been looking for the best wax or paint protectant I can use on my 2002 F150 because I'm forced to leave it outside yearround. Any suggestions would be very welcome. I have been checking out a new protectant from a company called 5 Star Technologies call "5 Star Shine". It looks pretty good but is expensive as compared to over-the-counter waxes. If it does what they say, it would probably be worth it. Has anyone used it before, or heard of it? You can check it out at http://www.5starshine.com/
Actually that stuff is NOT all its cracked up to be. Im trying to remember the site where I read someone tested it and it really only lasted maybe a year. If you want a high quality product that HAS been road tested and approved by many pros try an Acrylic based protectant which is Klasse, Zaino a Polymer, UPP a Polymer base, Coats Products Ultra Seal II. For me, I dont have the time needed for Zaino, as it takes time for curing, plus has many steps. But the results will knock your socks off. Klasse and Zaino have a good 6-9 months. I have had very good results from a product called EX which is from Poorboys. Its a resin base with carnauba in it as well. Goes on like silk and trying to buff it off is a dream. EX will jump away from the buffing towel ... LOL
I think mostly it will depend on you how much time you want to put into it
Robjef: I suggest you visit Meguiars.com. One can receive quite an education in that area. They also provide a free care care prescription to match your finish and environment FREE..
What state are you in? I went to the Megs site for that reason a while back as well, and all reports are pretty much the same. Dont get me wrong, great info. But each combo I tried it gave me the same products back... LOL
I love the site though. Great info there that has helped me BIG time. I dont know how many times I watched Barry working with the PC. Can never go wrong with Megs, I guess thats why they have been around so long huh?
I'm like Cujo, and do not have the time for the steps and time needed for Zaino. I use Mequiars on all my toys - the X, the jet skis, the boat, even my bikes. They have such a variety of products designed for whatever the need.
I do mine about every 2 to 3 months, whether it really needs it or not. I use a buffer to put it on, and hand towels to get it off. Its a lot easier to me to keep it shining than it is to get it to shine again...
zaino only takes longer the first time. after that you dont even have to touch the paint. You will, but only because you are instantly addicted to the ever deeper glow you get adding more layers! You dont have to wait for it to cure anymore either. Zaino sells an activator to seed up the drying.
Chad .. I replied on that Nico page. Im not trying to rip your product bud, but all it is, is just Teflon. If the 5Star web page is 100% true all of us Detailers would be out of jobs. They claim its a 2 step process that takes an hour and never have to be reapplied? Never have to use soap again? Im sure you have a pretty good product but the claims to me personally are far fetched. I would beleive it more if they said something like ... " 1 application a year or even every other year" Does that make sense?
While you may say it is "just teflon", yeah teflon is used in alot of different things, but we have a PATENT for specifically using teflon in a way that adheres itself to a positively charged surface. That is the technology that no one else has. People may try to say that they have something similar, but the tricky thing about teflon is that it doesn't stick to anything. Our product alleviates that!
You can read it for yourself:
NOTE:
Don't be confused, in the paragraph "BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION" it describes a DIFFERENT PATENT (4,284,668 ). 5 Star remedies and eliminates the "buffing" which can damage paint that the other patent needs in order to achieve effect. 5 Star Shine contains NO ABRASIVES.
You really have no right to come up with any conclusion since you haven't tried our product for yourself. Maybe you should try it and then write back your comments.
