Got no dash lites on 80 Model F100. Checked all fuses and dome light works. Dash lights have not worked since I have bought the truck. Pulled radio last night and checked installation and everything tested O.K. Radio installation looked a little shoddy to me. My ignition may have a short in it. I have to turn key sometime a little whitle in motion to get gauges to come on. Could this effect dash lights? thx
Ill do that this eve. I guess it's possible all the bulbs are blown but I didnt consider it likely but it's worth a try. I guess it could be a bad light switch but usually the dome won't come on either, but there's always a first time for everything
I had this very same problem with my F150, i had no dash lights. Still don't know why they quit working, but i know they did. I would check the lite blue/red striped wire going into the headlight switch, Try applying power to it and see if your lights light up.
More than likely you had a fuseable link burn out, or had a wire burn through in a spot. I've got to re-wire my dash totally to get everything straight, as someone spliced mine up from what looks like 6 different cars/trucks.
Thx, worse case senario I can run a hot straight to them and install a variable limiter switch in an inconspicious place, but I really wanted to keep it clean and original though. Good luck on your rewire, I've been there.
Mine is so bad that i had to wire my dash lights, and marker/tail/cab lights to a toggle switch in the cab. So when i drive at night i have to pull the headlights, slap a toggle switch, and i'm off.
Thankfully this allows my drivers turn signal to work at night. Whoever rewired this thing, didn't do a good job, something is crossed somewhere, and i'm just band-aiding it for now.
10-4 on the band aiding it. You gotta do what you gotta do. I've had experience with Ford and Chevys that needed a little help in the wiring department. I prefer Ford for simplicity but they all are a bugger when you start tracing stuff. 18 wheelers are really fun to trace shorts in. Schematics are helpful occassionally buy most of the time when you finally find it, it's something simple. Ill check that blue/red wire this eve and see what developes. thx
