1990 Ford Courier/Mazda B2200 Engine swap

Hello all,
This is my first post here on the forum, so please delete or move to the appropriate category if i happen to have it in the wrong place.

Basically all I would like to know is; I have a 1990 Ford PC Courier (or mazda B2200, same thing) with a 2.2L Mazda F2SA petrol motor. My problem is the person i bought it off of never used coolant and the head corroded out, I bought it cheap with the idea of fixing it up, getting it running again, and using it for a work ute.
Problem is i cannot find another head to suit the 2.2 so my question is:

What other motor can i put into my Ford Courier with a 5 speed manual "mazda M519" gearbox without changing too much to make it go, I cannot find if the 2.6l EFI motor will bolt straight in or not, or will a 2.0L motor fit without any adaptions?
Basically im looking for a straight engine swap without having to change the gearbox, I would like to know the options.

Thanks in advance.

OR, can i use a head from a 2.0L???? because there seems to be plenty of those around but no 2.2L engines.

I assume you are in Australia or New Zealand, so things might be a bit different, but basic engines are probably the same.
The 2.6 engine used in the B2600 sold in North America was a Mitsubishi design and I think will not bolt up to the bellhousing, and possibly not the motor mounts either.
The 2.0 head from a B2000 will fit the 2.2, and has the advantage (or disadvantage, depending) of having adjustable rocker arms.

Enthusiasts also transplant the DOHC Kia Sportage engines into these trucks for a substantial power increase, but it is rather involved. It is a version of the Mazda 2.0 engine so fits the transmission and mounts.

Over here these parts are plentiful and cheap. A friend actually has two extra 2.2 heads sitting in his solvent tank, to give away. The shipping would be expensive though.

Thanks for your reply Beanscoot,
Yes I do live in Australia and i cannot believe how hard it is to find another 2.2l head for my motor, but thank you for the info, the local wrecking yard in my town has three 2.0l motors but no 2.2l ones, i have hunted all around the state, was quoted over $900 for a new head delivered (which is more than i bought the vehicle for) or i can buy one from the states delivered for $650 (backwards i know, and thats even after converting the USD to AUS)
I have given the head to another guy who is going to see if its worth trying to weld up the corroded parts and machine the head back smooth again so im just laying in wait to see what will come of that option.

Head trouble

Unless the welder is quite familiar with repairing cylinder heads, it is probably not going to work. I had a welder acquaintance try to fix an Escort head that was cracked, he did a nice job but didn't have the preheat and cool down facilities so as the head cooled, we heard a couple loud cracks.
On pressure testing it was found to leak like a sieve.

Now there are shops that specialise in the field, one advertises on ebay that they don't care if your core is cracked etc. as they count on welding them up.

But that is about fixing cracks, and you say yours is just corroded.
How bad exactly is the corrosion, and where? Perhaps you can get it cleaned at an auto transmission shop, they do this as part of the rebuild so usually have facilities.

The critical area is the individual "fire rings" around the cylinders against which the metal rings in the gasket seal. Usually any corrosion there will be removed with a light skim.

Corrosion in other areas is not so bad, and can usually be fixed by sealing compound on the gaskets.

Do you actually have corrosion to the point of holes in passages?

Finally, remember that I mentioned in my last post that indeed, you can use a 2.0 head on the 2.2 engine block.

Well the guy does specialize in valve heads, and i got the call yesterday that YES the head is cracked between 2 and 3, the corrosion would have been an easy fix but now im up for a new one, he quoted me $600 for a new head and he will use my cam, valves, ect.

But its good to know that the 2.0 fits a 2.2, thanks for the info, But i know how hard mine was to get off with all the pollution gear that was on it as it was all seized in there and the ones in the wreckers have been sitting outside and look even more rusted up so I will just bite the bullet and pay for a new one because i cant seem to find a decent replacement.
