Replacement Fuel Tank ?

I just purchased a replacement fuel tank for the F100 and after painting the tank and getting it ready to go under I noticed that the blead air port is in the rear on the replacement and on front for the one in the truck.

Does this pose any real concerns if I just run a little extra hose over the servicing hose to the other side? Or can I rotate the fuel servicing port to strait line it.

The reason I'm changing the fuel tank is it has rust and is clogging my fuel filter and shutting off the engine at any given time.

thanks in advance for your assistance

Did this tank come with a gage sender unit?

You could call the maker and find out also.

Replacement Fuel Tank ?

As far as I know, the 73-79 rear tanks came in two types -

1. the vent tube to the front of the fill tube and a small vent tube on the top center which runs to the charcoal canister under the radiator (this style is on my '73 and my '78)

2. the vent tube to the rear of the fill tube and no vent on the top center of the tank

What you have done will probably work fine, as long as the top center vent is either plumbed in or plugged so it won't leak. If it were mine, I'd prefer the correct tank - but I'm just that way...

I would plumb the top vent somewhere back into the fill tube so it is easier to fill your tank or into a charcoal cannister.

Replacement Fuel Tank ?

Hi all,

I have a related question. I have an '77 F250 2WD with a utility bed. I believe that I have a non-stock fuel tank as I top out at 17 gallons when I fill on empty. The tank is located in the rear above the spare tire. There really isn't the room to replace with a larger tank. I have been thinking of adding a second tank. Has anybody this? What is entailed? Was it worth the effort? Note that I have a single exhaust running down the right side. Thanks for any feedback.

Ken

There are all sorts of topics here on fuel/gas tanks that you can search for. You have the std rear mounted fuel tank ~20 gal. These trucks also came with midships tanks. You can find those in the scrap yards along with the tanks selector valves and fittings. You can also get a double size tank ~40Gal for the rear tank position on some trucks but you have to find another spot for the spare. You can find pictures of these tank setups in many repair manuals and also the OEM Ford manuals available on CD at the online store.
