I'm just south of the Akron store, which is the home of Summit Racing. I actually used to shop at the first real storefront which was back in very early 90's. It was just a strip mall kind of place. They built the new BIG store about 15+ yrs ago. It actually started in a garage.
Here is the current store. The racing group I run in is sponsored by Summit so we had front billing at SuperSummit a few years ago. That is my wagon.
NSS signal goes to Pin 30 of the PCM. My manual shows the input as NDS....Neutral Drive Switch. It's an input to the PCM to tell it whether the trans is in Neutral or Drive.
The plug has four wires, 2 for NSS, 2 for backup. I soldered the two NSS together so it could start. The other two I wired to the switch on the transmission so the reverse lights work.
I did get the PIP put in tonight. Unhooked the battery for a while, then took it for a drive.
It still has issues. Driving along in 3rd gear, 2000 rpm. Just try to hold speed, as you ease off it bucks back and forth trying to figure out if it wants to coast or apply power. Sometimes it is worse then others. It will do it in any gear for the most part. It is super touchy in first. Don't try to go slow on a bumpy road in 1st as it will try to throw the driveshaft out. You can't control the gas steady enough and with the gearing it really wants to buck.
Everything I've replaced has helped in some manner(idle quality or drivability), but hasn't fixed the root cause. I still wonder if even the computer doesn't really care if it has auto/stick, but if itself has issues with the inputs it is receiving and making it hard to drive. I think I will work on getting another ECM for it(get a core so I can keep my current one).
Well on my never ending quest to figure this out, I've determined that it has a constant rhythmic surge of power while driving. 1,2 gear are the most noticeable as the load is light and the gearing is high. 3,4,5 aren't so bad but it is there, constantly. You can feel it in the shifter actually, the pulse of power. Not a "dead miss" kind of thing, but pulses. It has new plugs, wires, cap, rotor. The old plugs were burning fine, no noticeable issues and only maybe 6 months old.
Even when just reving the motor, it has a shake to it that I've always wondered why it did it. It should me smooth as glass. With every sensor being changed in the ignition I can only say it must be the computer. What else could it be. It has a new fuel filter, so I don't think it is fuel related. It will accelerate with power so I don't see how it could lacking fuel pressure. I'll get a gauge on the rail just to confirm.
Would weak injectors give it this kind of issue? It can be smooth on the highway if you lean into it for power. Ease off and it has that surge feel. Even at 2300 rpm in 5th it bucks if you try to ease off the pedal on the highway.
Well I put a new coil on it. Not it. I put a screwdriver in the throttle and put it at 2000 rpm. It sat there and surged up and down. I took video. I unhooked EGR and no change. I unplugged IAC and no change. I did pull ecm out and looked at it. The inside is perfect shape. Nothing burnt or looking used up. I put it back in and it seems to run better with no real surge. Tach stays steady now. We'll see tomorrow if it runs better.
