My truck(below and in gallery) needs a new paint job (and some body work) and i need some ideas on what i should get (it won't get painted for a while but i need some ideas so i can get price qotes so i can start saving). I would like to have a good solid base color (maybe red) that would match the interior with that pearl hue (help needed here). And i would like to get some sort of graphics down along with some pin stripping along the body line (this will be the same as the pearl). The graphics is what really brings me to a standstill. Maybe some chome illusion (changes colour) racing stripes, or ghost flames? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any suggestions.
The possibilities are endless...right up until the money runs out. You really need to research some other pics and layouts to see what you liek and don't like. Red is going to be an expensive color and the color shifting paint can run as much as 3000 a gollon. It has gotten a little cheaper but not a lot. Falmes are pretty easy to do but it takes time. A paint job can cost as little as a couple hundered from M***O places or as much as 10K+. Do your homework first...then do it again.
I think you can buy new bumpers with a paint coating (not chrome). How about a couple of those, monochromed with the rest of the truck in whatever color you decide? You can also treat the rest of the chrome and trim to allow it to be painted (I'd probably stay with chrome on the door handles, unless you had them powdercoated..... you'd probably wear the paint off in short order). Maybe shave the F-O-R-D lettering from the hood ('83 through '86 style), add a custom grille. Or, since you don't have to match the fleetside bed body lines, swap on a '92 - '96 front clip? I'm a fan of darker hues with monochrome..... maybe check out what the latest offerings are on the Mustang and F-Series? Midnight blue / midnight green / midnight black? Maybe a super-dark red (blackberry)? Just a few more thoughts..... Oh, and however tacky they may be, try to incorporate some sort of bodyside trim along the lower door edge / front fender. Maybe from a '92 - '96 in body color (probably the best for preserving good looks). My '85 Bronco didn't have any from the factory, and I didn't really care to add any. I changed my mind after my first door ding two weeks after the paint job, and installed a set of '89 moldings. Just a few thoughts...... Best of luck in reaching a decision!
Nice truck wish my paint was that good. Got the same truck but its an 86 same color. Well almost the same color its mostly flat black and primer. I love black trucks but hate the up keep on the paint. I was washing and waxing this thing everyweek. One year I decided that the glossy black had to go . So I sanded it down and sprayed it myself flat black.
I finished rebuilding the chassie and made a new bed for it last month . Ive Been taking out the 4 wheeling dings and now its time to paint the exterior and start on the insides.
I was thinking either a Dark Grey or Red I always wanted a red ford I had a red C$%#y but it was junk. Ive allready got a white truck hate that color .
I have seen many paint jobs on fords and i have found that i like the brighter colours (cherry red or something similar) with strong pearls on these trucks, also i have found that certain types of racing stripes look really sharp and pinstripping too. But i have not seen to many flame paint jobs (anyone point me to where i can see something) on these trucks. I am thinking of changing to the newer clip but the front and rear fender flares wouldn't match up (only fiberglass so the rear can be changed) and i would like to keep the current grill and the crome bumpers and door handles. I am thinking of shaving the emblems off the front though. Any other ideas?
P.S. does anyone know of a "virtual" paintshop i could go to or get?
