LED Lighting

Alright. First, sorry if this has been asked before. I'm looking to mount some auxiliary LED lighting on my truck cap to allow illumination on the sides for non driving night time needs. Then maybe add a light bar at a later time.

I'm not going to spend $200 per light, I'm not that set on a project like this. I've seen some expensive lights.

Here's some questions I have.

Are there bad brands? I'm looking for inexpensive so I get that it may be not a fantastic brand.

How many LEDs per light would be good for each corner to have a lamp?

Can you offer good brands to look at and where to get?

Thanks for any help.

I have two 27w 4" LED lights on the back of my truck. They're almost as bright as my headlights, but more of a flood pattern. I've had them for a year with no problems at all. The brand is Tuff LED, and you can get a pair like that for under $50 on Amazon.

I did look on Amazon. Found a few with good ratings and relatively inexpensive. Thanks.

I saw some of those big bars on other sites for over $1000. Now that is a waste of money, IMO. Unless you need extreme lighting. Sheesh.

This is their actual website. It has a wider selection than Amazon.

Thanks for the link!

If I hook these up to my upfitter I'm assuming I have no need for any wiring harnesses they sell.

Correct. I've made my own harnesses for both applications.

If you are using the upfitter switches, I would look and see how much current those switches are rated for. These lights use 2.25A @ 12V. I would think you could do 2 or maybe even 4 wired directly to one switch. Past that, I would use a relay so you are no drawing all that power through the upfitter switch itself.

Sounds good. I thought all the upfitter have their own relays? I remember installing a huge box with the switches in my old truck.

I'm looking at 4 at most. Probably just 2 to light up each side

They very well may. I know what they look like, but I have never installed them or used them.

Yep. They each have their own relay.

That's really nice that everything comes wired like that. I figured they have you the switches and some wire leads and that was the end of it. I had no idea that you just have to connect power and ground. That should make it a pretty easy install.

Yep. As long as you stay within the limits of the upfitter you're using it's almost plug and play.

I bought this one on Amazon and mounted it in the bumper.

Amazon.com: ANNT® 24" Flood Spot Combo Beam-3w Led-120w-9000 Lumen Waterproof Off Road Led Light Bar Work Light 4wd Ute, for Utv, Truck, Suv, Side By Side, Polaris, Yamaha, Rzr Razor, Rigid, Ranger, Golf Cart, 4x4 4wd Ute, Jeep, Cabin, Boat, Car, etc Amazon.com: ANNT® 24" Flood Spot Combo Beam-3w Led-120w-9000 Lumen Waterproof Off Road Led Light Bar Work Light 4wd Ute, for Utv, Truck, Suv, Side By Side, Polaris, Yamaha, Rzr Razor, Rigid, Ranger, Golf Cart, 4x4 4wd Ute, Jeep, Cabin, Boat, Car, etc

I have seen the price on them drop down as low as $39. I have had it for over a year now and have been very pleased with it. I did seal my lens with silicone for a little extra insurance on water resistance and that seems to work fine. I haven't had any issues with water intrusion or fogging of the lens. For the price, I am a happy camper.

I have mine connected to an upfitter switch. I was thinking about getting a couple more to mount under the bumper. All four together would be well within the rating for the upfitter switch.

Check out this site for LED, and HD light set ups ddmtuning.com they have individual bulbs, light bars, with different ratings. No affiliation, just bought some lights a few years ago, and like them.
