Hey guys its been a while since I've been on here. I've been to broke to do any fun stuff to my tuck and (knock on wood) the old boy has been doing great and hasn't had any real problems but I need new injectors bad and found a great price on some used ones on a low mileage tuck. The donor truck is a 2000 with a little over 100,000 on it and mine is an 03 with 426,000. My question is this; I think my injectors are AB's but I don't know which ones the other tuck has so is there any way to find out before I go pull them? Since I'm changing all 8 does it matter if I replace my AB's with A's or whatever they are? I know they'll all fit but is there a reason you can't change one set for another? Thanks for any info
The only difference would be if the donor ones are a single shot injector like an AC (designed for the high torque motor used in buses and the like) code injector instead of the split shots our trucks use. If they are single shots you can get the PCM flashed to run off these; or use it as an excuse to buy a programmer like the Hydra and have the correct program installed to run off the single shots. The truck will not be very happy running off the single shots until the reprogramming/flashing is done. Yours (if stock) should be AD injectors with a possible AE in hole #8. The AB's are off the older version of our engine (but a split shot injector still).
If the injectors off the donor truck are stock, I can't see any issues with swapping them straight over.
Thanks a lot Rikster but looks like it don't matter now, I just called to find out when they close and the whole motor is gone from the truck so looks like I'm looking again. Thanks again ya'll
Just in case this thread hangs out for a while, it is completely possible and acceptable to interchange ABs and ADs. No harm will come of it and no difference in how the vehicle runs will be observed.
