spair engine?

I found a complete 2006 engine, 140,000 mile. One head is off and owner claims bad piston and needs rebuilt. Includes heads injectors, turbo, y pipe and fan cutch. I can get for $500, is it worth having for parts for my 2006 w/200,000 miles

I would think so. Front cover is worth more than that.

I am thinking injector cores are worth half the total price.

Here is the add. Looks like a 03-early 04 from the intake and ICP sensor location.

6.0 Ford F250 or f350 engine

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I am in the process of getting an 06 complete truck, although all I want is the motor. I was thinking of tearing it down and re building it and then just do a swap into my truck. A lot of gears turning in my head .

What are your plans for it, rebuild or just parts?

Most likely parts. But now that it looks like a 03 motor I am thinking about passing on it

So you didn't mess with the bottom end? I that's what I was thinking, if the cam is in good shape, just do lifters and the heads and any seals that it needs. About how much did you spend to do this?

It cost me about 1500 and yes i did go threw the bottom end. All new bearings, rings, and low pressure oil pump. I wanted to take care of the bed plate seal while it was out and i just couldnt stand having that far torn down and not change all of it. But around 1500 - 2000 but that was all of it. Ready to install. Head prep studs bottom end. Thats doing all of it myself tho. I dont know if you plan on doing it your self. I bet it would be alot more to have a shop do it

Ashville Engine wants 5k for a long block, if you trust them.

That's pretty impressive what you've done. Well done

So you took the block to the machine shop as well as the heads or measure the bore for wear? Also did you use a book or guidance of any sort or just experience? Just trying to get some ideas and since yours is up and running I may follow your lead.

And thanks for your input.

I didnt have anything done to the block cause it all checked out good i did take all the measurments and checked them with a builder in my town. The engine had really low miles on it to. The deck of the block i just used a stone to go over it. I actually have done it that way on both my 6.0's and havent had a problem yet. I did use every book i could find on the enternet every step of the build i also have a really good shop here that will give advice over the phone hes the 6.0 guru here thats pretty much the majority of his busness powerstrokes. I love having the spare engine tho just for little things. Bolts clips brackets sensors...... Its really nice just the convinence is worth the money for trouble shooting. If you think somethings going bad you have a spare to verify its bad

OK Thanks,

If I decide to go through with it I'll start a new thread and post everything here. If your still around your input will help a lot.

The one I am trying to get is an 06 E450 w/200k miles.

O that changes things a bit i was curiouse where the driver valve cover breather was but still looks like an old style i would double check the year i think you can look up the engine vin cause if its an early year you will be loosing the hole hp oil system thats a huge loss that was one of the main reasons for my swap i wanted the updated oil system for reliability

You could swap all your stuff over to it if you have it in your 05 but that defeats the purpose of the spare parts and it would set you back on the day of the swap bye a few hours.

Because I like my truck so well and the engine can be an issue, I've planned to snag a spare engine myself. If you have the tools to do an engine swap it seems like a great idea to me to have one stashed back. Maybe even freshen it up as a project and have it ready to drop in if the situation comes up. Like you're thinking it would be better if the engine was the same as the one in the truck.
