Tried posting this in the 4X4 section but got no responses, cep't Monsta's suggesting I post it here. So...here goes.
Okay...this morning I found myself on a sandy road and thought I'd engage 4X4 and let things turn and lube up. I've got a 93 F-150 with E4OD and that electronic, push-button, 4 wheel actuator on the dash. I pushed the button and nothing happened. Tried all the positions, in park, neutral, slightly moving, not moving at all. Nothing. I do remember last time I used 4X4 I had to hold the button in longer than normal for everything to engage, but it did engage. I didn't have a lot of time this morning, but I did check the fuse...it's good. What's the normal culprit in this case? Seems I remember that the actuator switch on the transfer case is one of the weaker links. What are some things to check and how do I check them. My shop manual on CD-ROM has not arrived yet, and my Haynes book doesn't go into very much detail in this case. It will be Monday before I get a chance to crawl around under it so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

check the vacuum line, one time when we went 4wheelin a friends vacuum line busted so he didnt have any 4x4 on the trails, he fixed with the line off the cruise control i think.
Boy you really had me going with the vacuum line thing...went straight back to my Haynes book and started trying to figure our what I'd missed. Still, thanks for all the replies...I appreciate any help I can get. For what it's worth, I crawled around under the truck yesterday, just looking, poking, and pulling and played with the connector to the switch. It didn't seem to be seated all the way so I pushed on it. Crawled back out and gave it a try and it worked! That whole plug thingy doesn't seem to fit exactly right so I think I still have a problem, but a minor one. Sure is something to be said for that ole lever you just grab and pull. Thanks for the help!!
