As some of you might have read, I'm a brand spanking new(to me) Excursion owner. My truck is in need of new tires, YES I know my door jam states "D" rated tires. My question is:? My X sites fairly high in the air, (tow package etc) I'd like to fill up the wheel wells a little better. I'm currently running 265/75/16. And again I realize that the second tire is a "C" rating, but isn't 5000lbs enough support? Will 315 just be to big?
Thanks
Big Mick

Well "crap" really does roll down hill.... I just dropped off my X back at the GoodYear Tire shop to get a second set of new tires put on. The Goodyear ATS's were horrible, talk about getting the **** shaked out of me...... . Anyhow now the dealer is installing Dunlop Radial Rover RV tires at a greatly reduced price. He told me that the Goodyears tires are coming from the "warehouse" already shaved due to "out of balance". Just great, I'm leaving to day to drive down to Florida...
I put on Nitto`s ( 305-70-16`s).No rubbing on stock suspension, no noise, handles a whole lot better. They are $30 to $40 cheaper then B F`s and been reading and hearing they will get you out of the mud and sand where the B F`s can`t.
I was going to buy new wheels...We have been traveling this week to and from LA....these tires ride well..They are a bit wide though...found lots of curb while backing into parking...Parrellel parking an X is an interesting undertaking....
Just wondering about tires....Oh and the wheels are certainly 16.5s....The PO must have changed them out...I am not sure what the reasons would be....I have 16s on my F250...
No matter what size or brand tire you use, I would pay attention to the load range. The 'D's are stock and I wouldn't go any lower. I put 'E's on mine.
I have 305's on my X and they rub the inner fender well when making hard left & right turns.
Which is why it is getting a leveling kit next week.
You should be fine with 285 or 295's
