Yet another tire question?

As some of you might have read, I'm a brand spanking new(to me) Excursion owner. My truck is in need of new tires, YES I know my door jam states "D" rated tires. My question is:? My X sites fairly high in the air, (tow package etc) I'd like to fill up the wheel wells a little better. I'm currently running 265/75/16. And again I realize that the second tire is a "C" rating, but isn't 5000lbs enough support? Will 315 just be to big?

Thanks

Big Mick

Yet another tire question?

I just got the Goodyear Wrangler ATS tires installed on my Excursion. Looks great and rides much better... I ended up getting the 285/75/R16's....

Yet another tire question?

Well "crap" really does roll down hill.... I just dropped off my X back at the GoodYear Tire shop to get a second set of new tires put on. The Goodyear ATS's were horrible, talk about getting the **** shaked out of me...... . Anyhow now the dealer is installing Dunlop Radial Rover RV tires at a greatly reduced price. He told me that the Goodyears tires are coming from the "warehouse" already shaved due to "out of balance". Just great, I'm leaving to day to drive down to Florida...

Yet another tire question?

Your Ex weighs in at about 7700+ lbs...
your tires NEED that rating and I would want a little 'spare' room...

And then there's the speed rating for the heat you'll generate...

Yet another tire question?

You can find 285's in "D" range on several brand/models....there basic 33x11.50's not too bad for no lift.

Yet another tire question?

My X came with 33x12.5x16.5...tires and wheels...

I plan to put 16s back on it when we wear out these new tires it came with...anyhow, the 33" 12.5s look good and we have no lift...

I would like to have 36s but SWMBO is 5'2" and she doesn't wnt here truck to be that tall...

Hope this helps...

Smile Yet another tire question?

I got my new Excursion also with BF Goodrich 33's on it. No lift necessary. Looks a little bit more "beefy" than the factory installed ones.

Ride comfort is good, handeling is good, and cornering is excellent.

Hope that helps.

Yet another tire question?

I put on Nitto`s ( 305-70-16`s).No rubbing on stock suspension, no noise, handles a whole lot better. They are $30 to $40 cheaper then B F`s and been reading and hearing they will get you out of the mud and sand where the B F`s can`t.

Are you sure your X has 16.5" wheels? In any case, you won't be able to mount 16's on 16.5 wheels, though I'm sure you know that...

Yet another tire question?

I was going to buy new wheels...We have been traveling this week to and from LA....these tires ride well..They are a bit wide though...found lots of curb while backing into parking...Parrellel parking an X is an interesting undertaking....

Just wondering about tires....Oh and the wheels are certainly 16.5s....The PO must have changed them out...I am not sure what the reasons would be....I have 16s on my F250...

Yet another tire question?

Yeah, my '00 X has 16" wheels, but both of the '76 E-250s I've owned came with 16.5" wheels. Finding tires for them was sometimes a challenge.

Yet another tire question?

No matter what size or brand tire you use, I would pay attention to the load range. The 'D's are stock and I wouldn't go any lower. I put 'E's on mine.

Yet another tire question?

I have 305's on my X and they rub the inner fender well when making hard left & right turns.
Which is why it is getting a leveling kit next week.
You should be fine with 285 or 295's
