Blue truck 460 plan, advice appreciated.

The L&L is a little over the top with a NHRA billet flywheel but it seems *your only option* if you have a mechanical clutch and the shallow 351M/400 bellhousing.
L&L has a lock on that backspaced zero balanced flywheel.
A 460 bell from a T-19 has a boss for an external hydraulic slave cylinder.
460's never came with a manual until hydraulic clutches in 1983.

I just want a good clutch for the $, not a lot of $$ so the L&L has to be good one, way of thinking.
I talked to the owner of a very reputable machine shop here in Missouri that do a lot od 460's and he suggested the LUK clutch. I am just trying to get some more experienced opinions on the matter.

You have a mechanical clutch and a 351M/400 bellhousing, correct?
You have an internally balanced 460 -from before 1979- correct?
So you have a shallow bellhousing and need a zero balanced flywheel.
The L&L solution is the only one that will fit.
There is no stock 460 flywheel that is neutral balanced because they started in 1983... after the 1979 change to external balance.
A regular 460 pressure plate on a 390 flywheel is too tall to fit in a 351M/400 bellhousing.
This is why L&L make a kit with a special flywheel.
I have used Hayes, Zoom, Luk, Centerforce, Sachs, Exedy, Valeo and Surflex clutches.
I am going with Luk this time because of price and past experience.

Rich, he is right, L and L is the only way to go when it comes to the flywheel. Even if you had an externally balanced 460, DO NOT try to use a flywheel from a 80s model motor. There is not enough room due to the thickness as stated above. Also, saw in the other thread in this section you are talking about buying the L and L rear sump oil pan for $350+. I hope you haven't ordered it yet. Go to Summit Racing and look for a 460 swap rear sump pan for a fox body mustang. It is Ford Motorsports Brand. I think mine was about $150. It includes oil pump and pickup IIRC. Hope that helps.

Well as of now the truck has a running 460 and a shifting NP-435 4spd....so what ever the PO used is working as far as the flywheel, clutch, bell housing.
I do have some clutch chatter though it might be the throw out bearing, so I figured I might as well replace the clutch pack since I have the motor pulled out.
Bigdan thanks for the Summit lead I am looking as I type.... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6675-a460
The L&L set up comes with a Melling HV oil pump, Melling HD pump d/s, thread in dip stick tube and it is 7 qts, but NO gasket. Summit one is a press/push in dip stick tube and 6 qts. And does NOT come with the oil pump and pump d/s but has the gasket.
Decisions decisions, one way or the other, someone is getting some cash.

So you already have the flywheel, and you would want a kit that includes another???
The M6675A460 rear sump kit is ~$165 delivered
Here it is at Summit's Ebay store

Yup, thats the pan I got. Sorry, thought it came with oil pump too for some reason. Seems to be a good pan, Haven't had any issue with mine yet. Been 2-3+ years. The gasket is real nice too, but you do have to drill out the reinforcement "eyes" where the bolts go through it for the couple of larger diameter bolts.

I am just researching what parts to use, gathering information and opinions. Thanks for the lead on the oil pump.

According to them. "Must be used with L&L Flywheels Special Bolt Pattern 1-1/16 Inch Heavy Duty 10 Spline Hub". Maybe that is a "buy me" statement?
