i have replaced almost everything except the wiring i cant get it to work it is a 1990 aerostar i have changed the sensor the vss the valve under the dash the hose the cable the amp my horn works ? i have checked the new vss i have a signal does any one out there hav a schem. the hayns book no schem . i have even replaced the switches in the steering wheel the only other problem is that my antilock light stays on also the brake light reason unknown i had the brakes worked on the we get this light
talking with the shop now. cruise did work the all of the sudden no worky an suggestions anybody !!!!!
The brake work upset the pressure proportioning valve within the master cylinder. To reset the valve, use the small bleeder on the front end of the master cylinder. Crack it open and have helper pump the brake pedal one or twice, no more than halfway down. This type of master cylinder was only used on the 1990 and early 1991 model years.
I can't recall if an ABS error code disables the cruise control or not. I have a nagging suspicion it does.
The BOO switch (brake on-off) could be the culprit It's used to cancel cruise control when the brake predal is pressed. It if fails closed, it will prevent the cruise from coming on.
rabs DO efect the curise, get the light out first. make sure the parking break is not to tight. it auto adjusts for worn breaks then is to tight for new breaks.

ok more problems shop tells me that they also replaced the antilock control valve trying to get the light to go out with no success you guys have any ideas they seem not to know any thing about it still have both lights on (brake (antilock) they also told me that they bled the brakes the old way by pumping the pedal the said the pedal went to the floor sever min before getting a pedal pedal seems solid thanks for all replies kd
Adjusters are released when the new shoes are installed, so there is no problem with the parking brake.
The real problem lies in the way the brakes were bled. When running the the pedal all the way to the floor, the piston in the master cylinder overruns an internal port causing a difference in pressure between the front and rear brake lines. This is what is causing your error code. Did you try bleeding the master cylinder with the small bleeder as mentioned previously?
Here is an excellent, in depth article concerning this RABS system and the problems/cures encountered. May want to show it to your mechanic if your are not familar with the way this RABS system operates. http://www.babcox.com/editorial/bf/bf69936.htm
could the type of bleeding that they did ruin any new parts like the antilock control valve it is near the steering linkage drivers side or the master cyl ?
No, bleeding won't damage the RABS valve unit. The only possible problem would be residual air left in the assembly. You can pull error codes for the RABS. (do search on this site for details).
In addition to the master cylinder, the later models used a different vacuum booster and plumbing arrangement for the brake lines coming off the master cylinder. It could probably be done but would not be an easy swap.
These RABS systems will drive you nuts with their idiosyncrasies, but once sorted out, they are pretty stable.
