A very cool pic; a '39? The rear is down on the overloads now. I wonder if the operator can clamp off the bucket?. If I was the truck driver, I think that I would be looking out the back in case I had to duck.

Does appear to be on the overloads but truck doesn't look like it's dipped in the rear at all. With the spring packs on these, it's hard to imagine them getting overloaded. My '40 has the same springs, was registered loaded @ 15,955 lbs.
How does one tell a '38 from a '39 from pics?
'40 gets the "Ford' script and sealed beam headlights...

At a truck show with my 47 158" wheelbase COE a guy stopped and started telling a story about driving a 101" COE dump truck like the photo here back in the day.
He was delivering loads to a new golf course that was under construction. Because of the short wheelbase he could get almost anywhere. So the golf course workers asked him to dump a little here, a little there, etc. In effect, it was a powered wheelbarrow.
When the driver's boss complained to him that he was taking too long on the deliveries, the driver explained what was happening. The boss then called the customer and said that he was losing money because of the delays. The golf course people said they would be glad to pay extra because of all the time it was saving them having this large powered wheelbarrow.
