I've been chasing this for longer then i can remember. At 40-45mph the rear end feels like its bouncing. no movement from the steering wheel, just a pulsating bounce
Little information about the truck: Has had Napa Gold shocks, Bilstein 5100s and currently Monroe reflex shocks. Installed readylift 4inch rear block kit about 2 years ago. Had 16x9 rims, currently has factory 16x6.5. Tires are 285/75s. New pads rotors and calipers. It's just driving me nuts to have it bounce all the time.
tire out of round
wheel out of round
carrier bearing bad
driveshaft out of balance.
slightly bent axle
or a simple wheel out of balance.. rotate front to backs.
this has done this with 2 separate rims both factory and ATX artillery. 3 separate sets of tires, 265 firestone transforce, 285 BFG ATs 285 BFG rugged terrains. Have had the tires rebalanced 4 or 5 times.
I don't think i have a carrier bearing, I have a 1 piece driveshaft? unless i'm thinking of the wrong thing.
are there tests for the driveshaft or bent axles?

I have suspected the driveshaft, I'm usually at 1300rpms at 40-45mph. Would it be the balance, or the U-Joints, as far as i know they are original from factory.
for wheel/tire/axle.. lift rear end (both sides) start engine and put into gear.. SLOW..
from rear of truck watch carefully at tire for small up and down .. each side.
or place a piece of plywood between driveway and tire.. make sure you have 1/8 inch space.. if tire makes contact or 1/8 inch increases .. there is the problem.
you have a Short Bed.. you may NOT have a carrier bearing... I am not sure.

It's just a tire. As to the diagnosis, keep in mind the rear end will not shake if you have it on jacks (jacks aren't very springy.) That is not going to work.
It might work to have somebody drive behind you and watch (maybe).

I GUESS you missed the part of the plywood and tire spacing... this is common in the repair shops. when you do not have a 50K frame jig...
out of round tire, wheel, bent axle.. the rear end is NOT to move .. as its on Jacks. the rear end is bouncing because of SOMETHING making it do it...
