What color was the core support originally in a 66 f100? I have looked at many pictures and some are body color and some are black. Which is correct? Thanks,
I agree with Robert. Black is better and further I believe the original color was a satin black, not gloss. I always use satin black on my trucks.

I had also wondered about that since I have also seen different colors. BUT, I was corrected. I'm assuming it was any color the owner wanted to paint it.
However, I do know a person that has a white 66' and the rad support is white also. He has had it since it was new, and said it was always white.
SO, I guess there are exceptions.
Guess back then, you could order it pink with purple dots. :-)
Black is the only way they came from the factory. If it is any other color it was painted later on. You could not order the color of the core support to be painted. And yes a satin black would be correct not gloss or flat.
There are so many levels of reflectivity in blacks - different lighting, different thickness, applying wet versus dry. I say paint it like you want it and be happy! Lol.
But, if you want to see my own experiment here are four pictures of different parts that I've sprayed over the past few months using the same Satajet 4000B HVLP spray gun. Black PPG Concept with flattening agents for the intermediates. No rubbing or cutting on any of this yet.
I mixed proportional using this Sartorious paint mixing scale. It goes to 100ths of a gram.
Flat - no real reflection at all
Satin or Eggshell - No distinct reflections, but not flat, either. Lighting halos are muted.
Semigloss - You can't quite make me out, but you know I'm there. More reflections than satin/eggshell. And a distinct halo of light reflection, but you can't see the individual lights yet. Sorry, a bit dusty in the garage lately.
Gloss - Highly reflective surface. You can see my phone in my hands and can see the label of a bottle sitting on the bench. The more I look the more details I see in the background behind me. I can see the grille of one of the trucks even. And definite lighting halos and you can see the individual light fixtures.
I found it interesting to try for myself. Never used to pay much attention but I can see the difference. These are not all Ford brand parts, of course.
