I am going to pull my upper intake off and redo the gasket. I want to clean it out also...it looks pretty carboned up from the few openings I have seen. Does anyone have any tips for cleaning it? How clean does it have to be?
I've heard carb cleaner, oven cleaner, lacquer thinner, MEK...is one better than the other? Any tools to use also? I have to thing the passages will be hard to get.
The best thing i've used is some throttle body cleaner and some thin steel wire brushes used for cleaning rifles and and guns.
They are cheap and they can get in those small spots.
You could get them from K-mart or Wallmart.
Here is a thought how about using castrol superclean it comes in a gallon and you dilute it with water. Get a storage tub or something big enough for the intake and pour a little in and fill with water, let the intake soak the majority will come off on its own and then clean with soap and water. Something to keep in mind is test your water to cleaner ration it could discolor your intake so start with a little/ small spot on intake (under it) and see if it does anything. I have used it for everything including cleaning my intake. That stuff works and it isn't expensive.
