I checked my transmission fluid level and noticed that the dipstick called for Dexron II. I am wondering if someone put the wrong dipstick in, as I would expect it to call for Mercon.
If so, does someone with my set up have a dipstick that they can measure the length and position of the fill marks? If I do indeed have the wrong dipstick, I'd like to just scribe some new marks if the ones on mine are wrong.
The book I have says your transmission does take dexron II up to 1988 when it changed to Ford Mercon. Most oil you buy now is both Dexron and Mercon. They make a semi synthetic now called Dexron VI, and is the top quality oil to use if you want the best. It's backwards compatible with all the older trannies that took dexron, and it mixes ok with any old dexron left in the tranny.
