got the clutch problems solved!!
took my inspection plate cover off and pulled the clutch arm, the the clutch arm pivot and added another washer.... works awesome now... good as new

I would have posted a picture of mine for you but it wouldn't have helped. Mine is a 4 speed.
Sounds like something must have had some wear to it? I don't remember my linkages being that close to the shifting fork on my first '59, but then again I sold it over 20 years ago.
