I have an automatic 1990 bronco II and it wont start. I have found out that the the started turns but the flywheel is not attached to anything. I was wondering what the problem might be.

No the starter runs it just spins the flywheel which is just spinning freely. I think the problem is that the bolts fell of or got sheered off of the flywheel. But i do not know how this could happen

You think it's engaging the flywheel? If that's the case you're going to have to drop the transmission or pull the engine so you can fix the flywheel. However, I'd be certain the starter is engaging the flywheel. A common way for starters to fail is in the mechanism that pushes the starter gear into the flywheel. The starter can be spinning, but whatever "kicks" the starter gear to engage the flywheel may be shot, and it is, therefore, just spinning freely.

Make sure that your flywheel is turning because your bendix gear might be shot. I had this problem on my Blazer all the time cause my engine had high compression and burned up starters, untill I got a high compression starter. But yours is probably just due to fatigue.
But if your flywheel is turning you will have to drop your tranny and go from there.
