The differences were minor for most - badging and tailgate stamping - although the 40's trucks had a very different grill with lots of chrome bars that must be very difficult to find/restore. Incidentally, the "M" prefix was not used after '64. My '66 was born and lives as a Mercury 250.

the Mercury truck grill's were different than ford's from 1946 till 1950, from 1951 till 68 they were the same Grill's as the ford line up with an exception of the 1961 it had MERCURY in the center of the grill. however 52 to 68 they had different upper valences that had mercury lettering or mercury was on the hood depending on what year it was. the big M on the hood was only used for 1961 & 2, hoss the bed on muppy 1840's truck is the correct bed for a pickup not ordered as a unibody. ford made them like that also.

Affectionately called "wrongbeds" because the styling doesn't match. So it's the factory-correct bed, but it's "wrong" in the sense that it was a stop-gap fix to give customers a non-uni & non-flare side option until beds with correct style side beds could be created.
My unibody has some very bad rust issues and I'm thinking it would be easier converting it to a wrongbed as there are rust free cabs and beds in my area.
