I have access to a dana 60 w/ 4.10's I was just wondering what all would be involved in swapping it for my 8.8. Will my current driveline work? Will the spring perches on the 60 work with the current leaves or do I need to get the perches off of the 8.8 and weld them to it?
Depending on the year of the D60, it may bolt directly in. If I remember, the spring perches from a '78/79 Ford Dana 60 Rear from an F250 were the same width as my '96, but measure to be sure. FYI, if you have to move the perches, would probably cost about $150-$200 at a shop including the new perches (about $22 for new perches if you can cut and weld it yourself). Since your truck is an '85, you won't have the VSS issue later model Broncos have.
Good luck,
VSS=Vehicle speed sensor
This controls the anti-lock brakes on '87+ F-series and Broncos. On my '96, it also controls the transmission shifting and is the speedometer (it only did this on the later models).
I am not sure about the perch measurements from the mid 70s, so I would measure to be sure.
