05 Excursion
I posted on the Introduction thread but thought I would post something here as well.
Just bought a 05 Excursion Limited. 108k miles. Pretty good shape. It will not be an everyday driver. I will use it for camping/fishing/hunting. Surprised it came with 16inch rims tho. Yikes! my wife Escape has bigger rims.
I will be looking to replace the rims with some 18 inch rims pretty quick. Not sure about the springs and rear end. Should those all be replaced at the same time as when I go with the bigger rims?

YES, the front & rear springs should be replaced & you can read about this issue till you grow old. It's all about ride/handling/ & or towing. It has nothing to do with wheel size. What you should keep in mind about your tire/wheel combo is unless you are moving into a 12.5 or larger flotation tire you should put no less that E RATED rubber on the X.
You leave out the drive train details which is helpful to answer your question. Most who go to the 18's also have lifted it usually with springs to avoid rubbing on turns. Most also look at their gear ratios if towing heavy especially if you have the V10.

Also, if anyone knows of a good shop in northern Illinois or Southern Wisconsin I'd appreciate it.

Before you start changing anything do some reading here in the "Tech Folder" at the top of this forum page, there you will find tons of information on the Ex suspension and upgrade ideas for it. (and a bunch of other great info too!) We can and will help you with any questions about what has worked well for us, but first put together a set of goals for your rig based on what you have planned for it's usage. I tow heavy with my V-10 EX and have made several changes to it that have greatly improved it's towing performance, there are lots of options for you from mild to wild all based on what you are looking to do with the big wagon.
You have come to the right place!

post up some pictures, we love pictures here.

Thanks, I think the JGG looks even better now with the 35"s and '08 mirrors.

Yes, the Tech Folder will keep you occupied until your eyes (and brain) hurt. But you will be much happier in the end if you digest as much of that info before developing your Ex mod plans. We would hate to see you go out now and buy some 18"s and 32" tires then do a spring swap or lift and then feel that it needs bigger rubber! Build it on paper first, it's then a good guide to the build up process, one step at a time in an order that allows the next step to further enhance what has already been done in a logical, cost effective order.

Here's another set of pictures to compare to Tom's.
Pretty much everything done to mine has been learned here on the forum. My 18" Wheels are the OEM Harley Davidson Wheels. There are tons of aftermarket wheels out there though if you like something fancier. The hardest part of some of this is finding the right parts at the right price. That tech folder will be your best friend too
Good luck!
