New Truck!

Just bought a 97 F-350 with 239K on the 7.3 truck seems to run well and has a few mods, CAI, Exhaust, Chip..Anyway what things should I be expecting with the mileage it has. It doesnt seem to leak at all and the previous owner took very good care of it. Just wondering what is normal for these beasts?

With that mileage you may be looking at injectors in the near future if it hasn't been done....

Sorry pilgrim, wasn't looking for fuel mileage estimates. Was just curious what major work may be heading my way with the mileage on this engine. The injectors have NOT been done yet so I will probably start setting some money aside for a set.

The most common issue is the CPS. They tend to go bad, but I wouldn't worry about changing it yet if it isn't giving any troubles, just have a spare in the glove box.

As they said injectors may be in the near future. A key indicator in them going out is a black fuel filter.

The IDM's have been known to fail every so often. Not a huge concern, but one none the less.

On a side note if you did not already know, the injectors fire from oil pressure. If the oil looses its viscosity (IE: not changing the oil) or the oil becomes low it will not run right.

If your battery becomes lower than 10.5 volts (If I remember correctly that is the minimum voltage) the truck will not start.

The other guys will chime in on other things, but that is what comes to mind at the moment.

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to FTE and welcome to the obs brethern
As what to expect on a 7.3 will be rutine maintenance and expect injectors to be replaced if not already changed. You will soon see that this trucks run forever if you keep up with the maintenance I have 800k and still going strong

These trucks are pretty remarkable. Just driving them, and tending to routine maintenance is generally all you need to do.

What I mentioned above is more a FYI kind of thing. Just things to be aware of. If you drain your battery from leaving your lights on, you won't be able to simply jump it off as you would your car. Things that may be beneficial to research for the future

Thanks guys! Yes I have already been looking at spending more money than I should! When I bought the truck I told the wife "oh it will be fine like this for a while" lol. Anyway I assume by CPS you mean the Camshaft Pos. Sensor? I actually think there was one in the glove box when I bought it! What do you all recommend for engine oil & filter?

You will get mixed responses regarding oil but for oil filter only use Motorcraft theres other but Motorcraft oil filters are bullet proof

Like stated above everyone has an oil preference. I ran Delo for the longest time but the last 3 oil changes I have been running Rotela 5w-40 synthetic. Use a Motorcraft filter though.

I would start with a pyro. If egt's are not manageable then look into an intercooler or a water/meth kit
