2004 E350 Front Brake Job
After inspection, I noticed the rotors looked grooved and worn.
I heard somewhere that I can convert the 2004 to better brakes that are in late model trucks and vans. Anyone know about this?
I replaced calipers and rotors in my E150 and feel this beast should not be much harder other than the parts are twice as heavy and probably twice the price.
Rotor suggestions? Amazon has AC Delco rotors for about $75 each. I installed Chinese rotors in the E150 and after 20 k miles, it still brakes smooth. The E350 is much heavier and may require the best OEM rotors.
Like JWA, I like to stick with OEM pads. Never had any issues with the Ford Super Heavy duty pads.
The calipers feel fine, but I have not removed them. If I do the upgrade, now is the time.
What about brake fluid? I see synthetic and regular. I will bleed the entire system until the fluid is clean.
Are there any diesel owners out there? I have not met any on the 6.0 diesel sub forum as most are die hard pick up truck owners. I consider my van a Ford E350 pick up with a permanent camper shell and room to walk around the bed.
Machining the rotors may cure your problem. But I prefer new, high quality parts.
I have Powerstop pads and rotors on the front of mine and they are excellent. Lots of stopping torque. Highly recommended. And now, a year (and 45,000 miles) later, they are in great shape: no cracks or anything.
