I am in the process of torquing the rocker arm assembly bolts and need to hand rotate the 2008 6.4L. What is the Harmonic Damper socket size? Has anyone been able to hand rotate these without pulling any of the fan shroud stuff off....also, what about releasing compression. Would love to hear what worked for you. I apologize if this information is posted elsewhere, but i haven't been able to locate it.
FYI - pulled the valve cover off and found one rocker completely off it's mount and laying on the head. The cup for the ball pivot had broke off. In removing and inspecting the rockers on both sides, i've found that one other cup was fractured, and most all the rocker end wear components were completely worn down.
The truck has about 215,000 miles (not sure of hours). I just bought the truck from a fleet dealer (Ford). Within 5k miles the tie-rod went out (Really bad), and the right side ball joints were gone (lower really bad, top bad). I will be doing all my own maintenance, but because I had these problems along with others like radiator failure AC charge loss etc....I negotiated a free oil change from the dealer (best i could get). Shortly after the oil change the valve train went out. I am in the process of replacing the rocker assemblies on both sides (most all were near failure, one assembly had failed). I'm praying that there isn't any damage further down in the engine.
Any advice on hand rotating the engine is greatly appreciated...really hard to even get to the damper bolts. Cant see the timing mark at the current rotation angle either.
