Just did a search and pulled the VINs for some used trucks. All 10 2008 trucks that came up had 8 as the 10th digit.
Could the OP post or PM me the VIN?
I can post it when I'm home and have the title in hand. I may be wrong as I did a quick count as I was washing it but I believe the 10th was a 7 so started worrying.
Just an update. Did a few 0-60 runs for the heck of it and truck averaged exactly 12.0 seconds, not good but I guess normal for one of this size with these figures.
Changed the fuel filter after checking this which was a bit clogged and I feel that it runs out better, will check time again after.
My next super duty will be a 99-03, most definitely.
FWIW, both our 2007s were definitely made in 2006 (sticker says 06, Ford shut the line down in 06, and EPA emissions are wrong for 07 besides), and 10th digit is a "7".

Change that last sentence to (my next super duty will be a V10 or diesel) and you will be much happier.....

You're the first person I've ever heard say that. Whatever works for you, but I'm not sure why you feel the previous generation is more powerful when it's not even close. I've owned, driven, and towed with both and think there's a clear advantage to the newer generation powertrain.
Whatever works for ya. Hope you like the new truck.

A lot of it is the market value I believe. I can get the 2v trucks for 1500-4k whereas I paid 8k for this 2008. Yes it is a much nicer more refined truck but the older cheaper rougher ones still get the job done.
I don't tow enough to justify a diesel unless it was a pre 97 7.3 that can be had pretty cheap. Already had a v10 truck back when gas was $4 and yes it was clearly more powerful than the 5.4's and got the same mpg for me but I did not like how it sounded with aftermarket exhaust and could not justify paying for $100 fill ups back then lol
The Super Duty got the 3V engines in the 2005 MY. The 2004 MY SDs still had the 2V engines. The F-150 got the 3V 5.4l for the 2004 MY. The 1999 SDs have the non PI engines with lower HP and TQ output.
I've always felt while empty the 2v had slightly better low end torque but towing, hauling and plowing tell a very different story. No comparison especially with a tune. I have a 08 regular cab 4x4 with a flowmaster muffler, k&n air filter, tb spacer, and superchips tuner. I also have 35" tires and a 2" front/rear lift. My truck toes 7-8k even better then my 2v v10 did. With stock 33" tires my truck did 0-60 in 8 seconds, now with 35" tires I do it in 9. There is plenty left in that motor. Once tax time comes I will be doing 4.88 gears too.

That's impressive for one of these trucks especially with a handheld. I'm a fan of efi live but can't sink any more $$ into this truck as I buy them for profit upon resale.
I haven't hooked my trailer to the truck yet but I feel confident that it would pull a load fine, and handle it and brake it a lot better than the 1/2 tons that'll beat it in a drag race.
