I just received the Universal Headlight wire harness from suvlights and installed last night and included the tip from northtexaspowerstrokes website for the diode and all I can say is WOW! When driving in to work early this am, clicked on the brights, and the hills/curves looked like daytime. I thought I was in an airplane coming in for a landing with the landing lights on!
My thanks to those in the websites for publishing this knowlege so we can improve out rides!
Now with the 9007 Silverstars, the upgraded 9005's in the foglights, and when I click on High beams, the lows stay on, and the fog's stay on.
Did the other mod to cut the green wire with yellow tracer and ground it per other references on this site.
If you guys are still around, could you describe the diode mod from the northtexaspowerstrokes site. I installed an upgraded harness tonight and would like to perform the mod to keep the high/lows on at the same time. They've changed their site around and the link is no longer good.
Just a thought, did you upgrade to the Silverstars?
Headlamps and fogs? (9007ST & 9005ST)
I did and also used the heavier harnesses from summitracing.
The lights will work with the stock wiring but are brighter with the heavier harness.
I did upgrade to the Silverstars a while back. I think part of my problem is the alignment. All the inspection shops that are supposed to have the equipment around here, either don't know how to use it, or it's broke.
I pulled up to a wall last night and did some tweaking and it helped. But I noticed when I was driving last night, when I held the lever back and activated the highs and lows at the same time, it was exactly what I needed.
nhancock, glad you found it. Thanks to Big K for re-posting it. You beat me to the punch. I thought I had saved it before and was gonna send it over to ya, but I just had a hardcopy. Good Luck 'cause his instructions led me to the best headlight mod I could have. They are great!
On what year and model vehicle did you install the harness from SUVLIGHTS? There website recommends a double harness on vehicles with dual batteries like the Super Duties. Did you install the single harness or the double harness? Do you clip the diode into the connector or does it have to be soldered?
Robert H - What is the other mod you referred to involving cutting the green wire with yellow tracer and ground it per other references on this site?
Thanks for any help you or anyone else can provide.
They have your relays and plugs for them so it looks professional. If you don't know much about electrical and relays. Save yourself the hassle and buy the premade kits. Otherwise it shouldn't cost more than $10 for everything.
Grannygear, I just followed the instruction on the http://www.northtexaspowerstrokes.co...pgradeharness/ web site for the harness and diode installation. Took a little re-reading to understand it and when i got the harness in, it started to make more sense to me.
It has been a long time since I did mine, so don't remember all the details outside of what is in the link.
OK. I have remembered how this wiring works. You can do it for around $30.00 give or take. You need a 12v 30amp relay from radio shack, an inline fuse, wire splicers, crimp on connectors, and a roll of 14gauge wire. You tap into the high beam wire at the headlight and wire it to one side of the coil on the relay. You run a ground wire to the other side of the coil. You run a wire from the hot side of the battery to the 12v in on the relay. You tap into the low beam wire and wire it to the 12v out on the relay. I did it on the passenger side so the wires did not have to be long. Remove the battery and you can reach everything easily. I mounted the relay on the ground screw close to where the battery sits. It works perfectly, and I assume is the same set up as the brite box, only you do the wiring and save some cash.
Does anyone know if there is any problem in doing this mod.I was thinking that there would be when u pull the head light switch twards u,when your low beams are already one. Also would like to hear how people that have done this mod,on how they feel about it.I really like the idea of having both head lights on,but dont want to cause damage to my truck either.
