ive got a 04 6.0 super duty and it will not put out any heat unless the rpms are above 1000. does this mean a clogged heater core or something else. thanks
Mine did the same thing last year. It was a broken water pump. Truck would heat to about 213F and cool down but there was no heat. Impeller broke from the shaft.
How many miles on the clock? Ill bet its time for a flush anyway. A full system flush should be performed according the the schedule in the owners manual or sooner. My bet is its never been done. Time for an inspection. Replace the T-Stat with a Motorcraft part only. Then while the systems down pull the pump and inspect. Also consider replacing any hoses that look/feel questionable.
Assuming your operating temps are good (you didn't say) ... I'd suggest checking your vacuum pump. The diverter valve may not be "diverting" when you select warm on the dash.
ok i checked hoses and top and bottom heater hoses are nice and warm. with heater on one of the heater hoses is real warm and other is just kind of warm. i did notice a slight smell of antifreeze and saw some steam and bubbling from around the cap. does this help with the diagnosis? may just take it to the shop and have it checked.
