what to buy f250 or f150

I was wondering if you guys can help me decide on what truck to buy in the near future. I'm trying to decide if I need a f250 diesel or to just get another f150. I will be pulling a car trailer a couple times a year with a 78 ford f150 with a 460 in it and the rest of the time it will just be a daily driver. The problem I'm having is that the truck weights I'm guessing some where in the 5500 to 6000 lb range not really sure. I live out in Colorado so I will have to drive through the mountains pulling the truck to different mud races and don't want to have to over work the f150. What are your guys options. thanks

maybe a F 250 gas 6.2L

it is rated for 10,000 pounds.

I pull a 8,500 pound travel trailer.

Forced induction is king in the mountains. Either the 6.7 in a Super Duty, or the 3.5L EB in an F150, I wouldn't mess with N/A up high.

The pull up I-70 is actually kind of fun when the turbo spools up. I lived in Denver for 14 years, and have towed up to the hills with several engines, and the turbo diesel is by far the best for it. I would imagine the EB is no slouch either, with the right gears and the HD tow package towing in the 8-10k range isn't unreasonable, in 2016 paper ratings are over 10k for all gearing combinations with the 3.5L EB.

An EcoBoost F150 is a fantastic towing machine. I've towed my car hauler and car all over & never had an issue. The trailer and car weight about 7,000lbs. I think the 3.5 EB pulls better than my 6.2L in the mountains. The F250 does handle the tongue weight better than the F150.

From a safety standpoint I myself would be more concerned about controlling truck and trailer going down those grades than pulling up them, and would prefer a 250 with good gearing and your preferred motor.

The F50 may be ok for towing something like that but you may be at the towing limits when the vehicle and trailer is loaded for the mud fun. I would just go with the Diesel and and the 250 just to be safe.

Are you looking new or used? The diesels pull awesome, just some of them are a little picky in cold weather. There's always a work around for everything though.

If you wait that long then get the 16 and the incentives to save some money. Most likely it will be the same engine package.

Yea I was hoping to big one up in between January and may before the mud season starts out here but I might just try to push it out a little longer and us my current f150 for beginning of the season as a tow rig. Just worried about the engine in it because the local dealer out here told me that my block was cracked about 15,000 miles ago but it seems to drive fine for now.
