Not a item that comes up often here. What do you like, size and face color?

It has to be cylinder dedicated or have a selector 4/6/8 cylinders, a light and a mount.

I put tachometer in the search on Ebay and 7140 listings showed up, so you have choices. I believe Sunpro is what I have. No probs.

If your the type of guy that likes to kind of make a statement and thinks bigger is better. And buy one of those big 5" white face racing tachs, then mount it above the dash so that everyone can see it. Or pillar side windshield pillar post.
Chances are some teenager will also want it as much as you!!

It's like a sign that says come & take me if you can when your vehicle is parked some place and no one is around.

tachometer recommendation for bumpside?

I got a 3-3/8" black one from oreillys. Works great. I've got it mounted to the right of the temp gauge. Looks good, light is good, smooth and accurate.

http://m.oreillyauto.com/mt/www.orei...0531&ppt=C0134

They've got the same one in a 2-1/2" if you don't want a big one. And white and chrome, and they got big ones, 5" 10k RPM gauges.

Just walk in and take a look.

i like the look of the 2 5/8" blackface sunpro, but there are some reports that it is not reliable at low RPM. I figure that 2 5/8" is big enough to see easily (eg at night) but maybe small enough to fit in front of the speedometer.

how about atm (eg 3708 @ $125)?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/atm-3708

i am mostly concerned about using the tach for helping with gas mileage on the highway.

Anyone tried these from NPD? I know they're pricy but liked the "old school" look. https://www.npdlink.com/store/produc...068-50017.html

Looking for a bit of better gas mileage then also add vacuum gauge motor/minder and learn to drive by using both gauges will yield the most gas savings.

I've been using this vacuum motor minder since 1978 & a tach really helped when towing or with a cab/over camper.

The prime swap meet season is nearly over. That's where I would go hunting.... I picked up an Autometer SportComp tach for $20.

a dumb question is how to use such a vacuum meter to optimize gas mileage (since i do not know). also, is a "gas master" gauge still available and if so where since a brief web search leaves me with the impression that this is in some way now considered "vintage."

also is there some dirt generic multiple gauge cluster solution for a steering column? has anyone done this for the bumpside yet? i don't want to do any major surgery on my stock dashboard cluster since (with the exception of the gas gauge) it seems to work ok (although a little dim at times).

many thanks to everyone for their kind help!!

PS I'm in NorCal and I do not know where and when the local swap meets are (yet).

Vacuum gauge (miser meter). ..It's more or less an indicator how much engine load is being applied. Your goal is to maintain engine vacuum as high as possible at all times... no rabbit launches and no wide open throttle sessions. .. steady as she goes. Accelerate like there is an egg under your right foot that you don't want to break.

Yeah, you could fab up a "Rally Pac". That would be cool.

Swap meets... where are you located? There will be a GoodGuys show/shine/swap meet in Pleasanton on November 13/14. A good one is held in April at ARCO Arena in Sacto... other good ones are in Turlock and Modesto.
