OK, now I think I've got it. How is your PATS bypassed? is it a bypass module from DEI? If so, they rarely work correctly. I just went through that whole nightmare of trying to hook up remote start to my Expy. After 5 days of messing with various PATS bypasses, I just quit and threw the alarm away. The best way to bypass PATS is to get a PATS key and use it the way it was designed. The downside? No remote start, and keys are expensive. Upside? Your truck is pretty much impossible to steal. What's worth more?

Car thieves are well aware of the PATS system, so they stay away from PATS-enabled cars.

If you were really bent on bypassing the PATS system, then you could dig a microchip out of a working key (read: one of your factory keys) and use crazy glue to attach it to the PATS ring around the ignition cylinder (you have to pull off of the column shroud first). That way, the PATS antenna will read the code off of the microchip when you go to start. Make sure you use an ordinary key after that, because if it "sees" two different chips, it'll shut down.

Good luck!

Do '98's have PATS? I thought they didn't start using the PATS system until '99???

My 97 has the PATS on it, and I think that was the first year the system was used. As far as gluing a chip from a working key onto the cylinder, it won't work. The cylinder becomes energized when you turn the key to the "ON" position, which activates the "chip". Without being energized, the "chip" is a dead duck.

I put the DEI bypass in my truck with my remote start, and it works fine. The trick is to find the right spot to secure the "chip". (It's not really a "chip", it is small glass vial about the size of 2 Tic Tacs) I glued mine to the outside of the cylinder housing, right behind the outer ring where the key is inserted. Other systems use a working ignition key to bypass the system. These systems work, but you run the risk of a thief finding the key, and stealing the truck.
