Ok, Ive had my 99 f350 psd 4x4 crew cab for almost 2 weeks now. I have to say, i do love it. I have noticed however that the OEM oil pressure gauge doesnt move from idle through the operating rpm's. Now, since i ordered the factory shop manual (as everyone should have) ive looked and it says that if there is pressure, the contacts are closed and show normal (on an analog gauge) and if there is no pressure (ie before starting or unhooking the wire) the contacts are open and the gauge reads no pressure. I HATE how it opperates. What can i do (and what has everyone done) to get accurate oil pressure readings? And what are readings people are getting at idle and running? Any info would be great.
The guage really isn't a pressure indicator that could warn you of any impending problems... It's nothing more than an idiot light with a needle instead of a bulb.... For what Ford charges for their trucks you would think they could spend a couple more bucks on a guage that works... There may be an after market guage that others could advise you on .. Good luck with your new PSD...
do a search on converting the oil pressure guage from an indicator of pressue to an actual guage. I remember reading it on this forum here the other week. unfortunately, i can't remember which thread it was though...
