Shake when towing

I have a small 5X8 flatbed trailer I use to haul my riding lawn mower, when I drive it on highway at 55 to 60 mph I feel a shake in steering wheel...my truck is a 2008 with 5.4 and does have a tonneau cover..will having this cover box cause shaking?

Does it shake without the trailer?

Are the tires on the trailer balanced?

This points to a trailer problem.

If no shaking without the trailer then the trailer is the issue.

You could try to rotate the tires or see if the can even be balanced.

How old are the tires? Check the tread to see if there are issues with separation?

It's nothing to do with your bed cover. Something is wrong with your trailer. Are you sure it's not just bouncing around over rough roads? I see a lot of guys towing these little trailers down the road fast and they bounce all over the place.

You could verify it is the trailer by asking a friend to tow your trailer with their truck. Do the trailer tires suggest anything is out of line or bent by the look of their tread?

Is the trailer loaded well? It's small and light but even then negative tongue weight can cause quite and issue. Also too heavy on one side or another can effect. Do you have a solid hitch? Some of the 3 ball ones, if not adjusted, have play in them.
