Tuning a 200

Hi, I just acquired a 62 Econoline pickup that I believe has had an engine swap at some point and now has a 200ci engine (5 freeze plugs). It starts up great and idles great but when warm and you shift into gear it really bogs down and sometimes dies. I've just rebuilt the carb adjusted the timing and like a said, starts like a champ and idles like a champ but under load bogs down. I am going to check the mixture but what is the correct Vacuum reading for this engine? It has a Carter YFA single barrel.

Manifold vacuum is the same as anything else, 14hg is adequate, the more the better. These things can be tricky with mismatched parts. Check the distributor to see if it's the old Load-O-Matic made for use with an SCV (spark control valve) carb. It will be obvious as the springs will be visable as soon as you remove the cap. It uses only the vacuum signal for advancing timing. "68" and later style, the springs are hidden and have both centrifical and vacuum advance.
