Been using a kerosene 120k btu torpedo heater for years in my detached garage. Finally became economically feasible to change. Bought a new 135k btu, dual fuel one that also burns diesel/heating oil. While kero is still $3.80 here, even over the road diesel is just slightly higher than gasoline, $2 and change. Home heating oil even lower(no road tax). Put a pump in my 550 gal tank at house, plus rigging a 55 gal barrel at the garage. No more trips to try and find overpriced kero at the few remaining pumps.
i picked up a 3 year old 90k BTU natural gas forced air furnace for $100 from a guy doing a second story addition and he was putting in a larger furnace.
all i have to do is run a gas line out to the garage and i can get rid of the torpedo heater.
That will be nice. While my garage is not insulated, I did put in all new insulated windows and doors this summer. That should help a little. Burning kerosene just got too expensive to spend much time out there. The kids forced me out of retirement to paint a couple projects this winter. Got one finished before cold weather (pardon the manufacturer),
i have been burning diesel in my old torpedo for over 10 years. the only difference is it smells a bit more until the front plate heats up and burns it cleanly.
i have been spending less time out there as the years drag on because with my bad legs it is getting very hard to move around. and the cold does not help matters either.
